Encrypted notes are only useful if you can recover and move them without exposing their contents. Use a test notebook before replacing Standard Notes or importing years of private material.
Create plain text, formatted notes, tags, and an attachment if your plan supports it. Edit offline on one device and online on another, then inspect conflict and history behavior. Export both encrypted and decrypted backups and test import into a separate account. Standard Notes' backup guide warns that decrypted exports contain readable files; handle them as sensitive data.
Compare search, cross-device reliability, sharing, and account recovery with alternatives. Decide where backup keys or passwords live and who can restore them. Do not delete the original notes until a complete restore and format check succeeds.
