Base64 converts binary data into text made from a restricted alphabet. It appears in email, data URLs, and APIs that need to carry bytes through a text field. The encoded form is typically larger than the original, so a normal binary upload is often better for large files.
Anyone can decode Base64. Do not use it to hide a password or document. Check which variant a protocol expects: standard Base64, URL-safe Base64, and forms with or without padding differ. Validate input and decoded-size limits before processing untrusted data; encoding does not make the original bytes harmless. Use the Base64 tool to inspect a safe sample, not confidential production data.
