Run CoreDNS in staging with the zones and plugins your environment requires. Query common records, missing names, and a deliberately changed service address. Check response time, cache behavior, and what clients see when an upstream resolver becomes unavailable.
DNS failures can look like application failures. Keep configuration versioned, limit plugin complexity, and provide monitoring and rollback for zone changes. A successful dig once is not enough; test recovery and negative responses too.
