For a Focalboard evaluation, import a small set of active tasks with descriptions, labels, attachments, and comments. Move them through the workflow with two users, then export and restore them. Check whether relationships and history remain understandable outside the original board.
The interface is only part of adoption; backup, permissions, and update cadence matter for a self-hosted tool. Keep a rollback point until the new board has supported a real project cycle.
