About Hangman
Hangman is a classic word-guessing game where one player thinks of a word and the other tries to guess it letter by letter. Each incorrect guess adds a body part to a stick figure on a gallows. The game has been a popular paper-and-pencil game for generations and is widely used as an educational tool for vocabulary building.
How to Play
A random word is chosen and displayed as blank underscores. Guess letters by clicking on the on-screen keyboard or typing on your physical keyboard. Correct guesses reveal the letter in all its positions in the word. Incorrect guesses add a part to the stick figure — you have 6 wrong guesses before the game is over. Try to guess the entire word before the drawing is complete!
Tips & Strategies
- •Start with the most common vowels: E, A, I, O, U — they appear in almost every word.
- •After vowels, try common consonants like R, S, T, L, N — they're in many English words.
- •Look at the word pattern and length to narrow down possibilities.
- •Avoid guessing uncommon letters like Q, X, Z early — save them for when you're more sure.
- •Pay attention to common word endings like -ING, -TION, -ED, and -LY to help deduce the word.
