One failed visit is evidence of a problem, not proof of a global outage. Check the service’s official status page and recent incident notices. Compare the same action on another network, device, or account if you can do so safely. Record the time, region, and exact error because partial outages can affect only some users.

User-report spikes are a useful signal but can include rumors, unrelated problems, and reporting delays. No spike does not prove the service is healthy. If the site works on mobile data but not Wi-Fi, investigate the local path; if independent users in different locations see the same failure, escalate as a likely wider incident. Keep the claim matched to the evidence you have.

Crowdsourced reports are evidence, not proof. Large services produce clear spikes; a small service, one region, one ISP or one account cohort may fail without enough reports to move the graph. Combine independent signals: the official status page, reports from more than one source, and a same-device/different-network plus same-network/different-device comparison. Record the exact failing feature and time, because “the website” may load while authentication, checkout or media delivery is degraded.
