What to save when checkout fails

Record the approximate local time, checkout step, visible error, item and final amount, and any order number or confirmation. Keep the sensitive details private rather than posting them in the forum.

Before retrying payment, check order history, email, and pending charges. A timeout after submission can still mean an order was created. Capture a redacted screenshot if it helps support, but never include card numbers or security codes.
