The DevOps alternatives directory mixes CI, release, monitoring, and infrastructure tools. Identify the operational job first; they are not direct substitutes.

Release rehearsal

• Build a small service from a pinned commit and store the artifact with provenance.
• Deploy to a disposable environment with least-privilege credentials.
• Intentionally fail a health check and verify alerting, rollback, and audit logs.
• Check secret handling, approvals, parallel runs, and queue time.
• Export pipeline configuration and test recovery if the provider is unavailable.

A tool should shorten the path from incident detection to safe recovery. Automation that cannot explain what changed or roll back reliably is not an upgrade.
