The NATO spelling alphabet assigns recognizable words to letters so a listener can distinguish similar sounds over a noisy channel. It begins Alfa, Bravo, Charlie, not Alpha in the official spelling; NATO's own history lists the standard words.

Convert a name or code, then read each word slowly and confirm digits separately. Punctuation and non-English letters may need explicit explanation because the alphabet covers A–Z, not every symbol.
