- Pin providers and modules; run a plan with secrets kept out of logs.
- Apply, modify, and intentionally cause an out-of-band change.
- Confirm the next plan describes the drift and replacement risk accurately.
- Test state locking, backup, import, and recovery after an interrupted apply.
- Review policy checks, team approvals, provider coverage, and migration of existing state.
A similar configuration language does not guarantee identical provider behavior. Rehearse on disposable resources before production state is touched.
