A file manager can index everything and still fail the basic test: finding and recovering the right file. Spacedrive is aimed at organizing files across locations; pilot it on a disposable library before adding important drives.
Include duplicate names, large media, renamed folders, removable storage, and a network location if you use one. Index the library and test search, previews, tagging, and moving files between volumes. Disconnect a drive, reconnect it, and check whether metadata and paths remain correct. Review the Spacedrive project and the current version's supported features before promising cross-device behavior.
Keep an independent backup and measure scan time, resource use, and database recovery. Do not treat an index as a backup: file deletion or a bad move must still be recoverable. Compare alternatives on your real library size and supported operating systems.
