Cloud APIs: test identity, retries, and cost under failure

The cloud API directory spans compute, object storage, identity, and observability. Choose a concrete operation—such as uploading an object or provisioning an instance—before comparing APIs.

Controlled exercise

1. Use a temporary project and least-privilege credential with a spending limit.
2. Create, read, update, and delete one resource; observe eventual consistency and propagation delay.
3. Simulate a timeout after creation and check whether retrying duplicates the resource.
4. Review pagination, regional availability, quotas, audit logs, and versioning.
5. Calculate cost for requests, stored data, transfer, and idle resources under the expected workload.

Tag every test resource and verify cleanup. Automation is only safe when errors, reconciliation, and budgets are designed alongside the happy path.
