For DEV/Forem integrations, request the intended API version deliberately. The official reference identifies v1 through Accept: application/vnd.forem.api-v1+json and marks v0 deprecated.
Check authentication per endpoint rather than assuming every public read needs a key or every operation is anonymous. Keep version selection in the shared client so one forgotten header does not give different parts of the application inconsistent behavior.
