Upscayl uses AI models to enlarge images. Compare alternatives with your own source images, because a dramatic demo image may hide invented texture or damaged fine detail.
Prepare three samples: a face, text or line art, and a noisy photograph. Upscale each with matching output dimensions. Inspect at 100% for halos, ringing, false text, hair texture, and color shifts; also compare file size and processing time. Test on the device that will do the work. The Upscayl project notes its Vulkan GPU requirement, which can rule out some machines before image quality enters the discussion.
Keep originals and output side by side. Enlarged pixels are not recovered evidence, so do not use generated detail to support identification or forensic claims.
