A browser game engine should be tested through interaction and deployment. For Phaser alternatives, create the same small scene in each candidate.
- Load assets, move a player, detect collisions, play audio, and show UI text.
- Test touch controls, keyboard input, scaling, and screen rotation.
- Measure frame time and memory on lower-end phones.
- Compare physics behavior, scene lifecycle, debugging, asset pipeline, and bundle size.
- Publish the prototype to the intended host and test browser compatibility.
Do not judge an engine by a polished demo built by someone else. The team's ability to iterate on its own game is the relevant measure.
