Ably's message history supports retrieving channel messages, but its retention is not a substitute for a deliberately designed long-term application store.
For the Ably integration, decide which events are transient and which records must remain available beyond the configured history window. Test a client returning after a longer absence. It should recover authoritative state from the appropriate source rather than assuming every missed event will always remain in channel history.
