Start with a specific product model and a price you are willing to pay. Watch offers for that exact variant, and set an alert if the tracking service supports it. A longer history can give context, but it cannot predict the next sale or prove a reference-price claim on its own.

At checkout, compare the delivered total: item price, shipping, taxes, fees, and any required membership. Check seller reputation, condition, warranty, and return costs. A cheaper listing may be worse if it is refurbished when you expected new or difficult to return. If you need the item soon, set a deadline as well as a target price; endless waiting has a cost. The FTC advises comparing product details and full terms, not just the headline price.

A useful history must follow the same offer: exact model and variant, seller, condition, warranty, currency, shipping, tax and stock state. Marketplace seller changes, coupons or unavailable listings can create false lows. Decide a target from the normal delivered-price range and attach an expiry date to the decision; product value and alternatives change over time. Include the cost of waiting, especially when the item is needed for work. An alert is a prompt to recheck the offer, not an instruction to buy automatically.
