Word Search

Find hidden words in a grid of letters — search horizontally, vertically, and diagonally!

About Word Search

Word Search puzzles were invented by Norman E. Gibat and first published in the Selenby Digest in 1968. They quickly became one of the most popular word puzzles worldwide, appearing in newspapers, puzzle books, and educational materials. Players scan a grid of letters to find hidden words placed horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.

How to Play

Scan the letter grid to find the words listed on the side. Words can run left-to-right, right-to-left, top-to-bottom, bottom-to-top, or diagonally. Click on the first letter and drag to the last letter to highlight a word. Found words are crossed off the list. Find all words to complete the puzzle!

Tips & Strategies

  • Start with longer words — they're often easier to spot because they span more of the grid.
  • Look for uncommon letter combinations or starting letters to quickly locate words.
  • Scan the grid systematically, row by row or column by column, rather than looking randomly.
  • Check diagonal directions — many tricky words are placed diagonally.
  • If stuck on the last word, focus on the unused areas of the grid where it must be hiding.
