A new audio editor should be judged on the material you actually produce. Import a multitrack session with speech, room noise, music, and a few edits. Measure how long it takes to repair a mistake, normalize levels, and export to the required format.
Listen to the output rather than relying on waveforms. Check plug-in compatibility, sample-rate handling, keyboard shortcuts, and whether projects reopen with all source files available. If your workflow includes transcription or accessibility deliverables, include those in the test. Keep the original Audacity project until you can reproduce the finished audio and a future revision in the candidate.
