Base64 does not make a file safer or secret. The decoded bytes are still untrusted input, so the receiver needs the same type checks, size limits and content validation as a normal upload. For performance, embedding is most defensible for a one-off asset needed during the first render; repeated logos, fonts and downloadable files usually benefit from a separately cached URL. Measure the compressed response instead of relying only on the raw 33% expansion, because gzip can reduce repetition but cannot restore independent caching.
