Complete guide to playing Reversi — rules, controls, tips, and strategies.
Reversi, also known as Othello, is a strategy board game for two players invented in 1883 by either Lewis Waterman or John W. Mollett. The modern version, trademarked as Othello, was popularized by Goro Hasegawa in 1971. It is played on an 8×8 board with discs that are black on one side and white on the other, making it a game of territorial control and strategic thinking.
Place discs to flip opponent pieces. You must flip at least one opponent disc with each move. The player with the most discs of their color when the board is full wins.
Players take turns placing discs on the board. You must place your disc so that it outflanks one or more opponent discs in a straight line (horizontal, vertical, or diagonal). Outflanked discs are flipped to your color. If you have no valid moves, you must pass. The game ends when neither player can move. The player with more discs wins!
