If you have only minutes before a release, hash the actual file being distributed, not a draft or similarly named copy. Record its size, filename, algorithm, and full digest. Compare the digest with a trusted reference generated from the approved artifact using an independent tool. If the values differ, stop the handoff and investigate which bytes changed. Do not upload confidential files or live secrets to an unverified web service just to save time; local hashing is safer for sensitive material.
