A live-streaming server must stay usable under audience load. For Owncast alternatives, run a private rehearsal using the encoder and network you plan to use.
- Stream at expected resolution and bitrate; test start, reconnect, and end behavior.
- View from desktop and mobile under weaker connections.
- Test chat moderation, embeds, notifications, recording, and accessibility.
- Measure CPU, bandwidth, latency, and concurrent viewer limits.
- Keep a fallback broadcast or status channel ready for an outage.
A smooth playback for one local viewer does not prove a public event will work. Test from outside the host network.
