Actual Server

Actual Server is the self-hosted sync component for Actual Budget; it is not the budgeting interface itself. To compare hosting options, use a disposable budget on two devices. Edit transactions on each, briefly disconnect one device, and verify that changes reconcile without loss when it returns.

Back up the server, destroy the test instance, and restore it to a fresh host. Check access control, TLS, upgrades, and how long a missed backup would set you back. Keep a separate export of the budget during migration. A fast initial sync does not prove that months of financial history can be recovered after server failure.
